A Little Background

Originally from Shanghai, China, I started a food blog as a way to keep in touch with her mother when she moved to San Francisco, CA with my husband Han in 2013. The blog was named Gourmet Persuasian at the time. Over the course of the first two years, the blog has grown to something much bigger. My recipes have been featured on numerous sites such as BuzzFeed, The Kitchn, The Daily Meal, SheKnows, RedBook Magazine, Examiner, etc.

Over the years, the connections and the relationships that I built with my readers led me to a bigger vision and a new mission. In March 2016, Gourmet Persuasian was renamed to DelishPlan with a lot more resources on top of recipes. The goal is to help busy professionals and home cooks plan easy and delicious homemade meals in less time they ever thought possible. You can read more about our rebranding here.

A Little About Us – Han & Sharon

Before meeting my husband Han, I had lived in my hometown Shanghai, China for the most part of my life as a real estate professional and a daughter to a doting mother. Together, a new life journey began in San Francisco, CA in April 2013. Han has been a solo-entrepreneur ever since he graduated from Boston University. Two years later, Han’s fast-grown business went south overnight, which brought us to Jacksonville, Florida, literally the other side of the country to hide, heal, save money, and focus on our own projects. Now, we reside in Austin, TX.

Other than being a dedicated dish cleaner, Han devours whatever I cook, offers constructive feedbacks and encourages me to cook good food, write better and share more, because someone in somewhere will enjoy my recipes or find my stories encouraging. I am hoping what I do adds value to people’s lives, even if it’s just a plate of healthy salad.

Gourmet Persuasian was started in 2013 when we were in San Francisco, CA. It is a food blog about healthy, tasty, easy to make gourmet food that we can cook at home for our significant others and friends. It’s about sharing love and caring by creating something that not only involves visual pleasure and good smell, but most importantly, great taste!

Why Gourmet Persuasian? Did I Spell “Persuasion” Wrong?

  1. Some of the recipes here have an Asian flair, but most of the food are made with a modern twist with an Asian hand to suit your taste. Recipes are tested before sharing with you, which means that I often eat the same thing a few times in a row until it’s perfect.
  2. I honestly believe that food, especially homemade food, has a strong power to build connections! I hope to persuade and encourage you to establish and retain connections with the people you love and respect, and to bring them closer from their busy lives by making and sharing good food.
  3. So yes, I did spell “persuasion” wrong. 😛

Why This Blog?

I grew up in a family where ingredients, sauces, food, different ways of cooking and recipe development were frequently involved in our daily conversations when we sat down and ate together because my mom is a dedicated cook who used to run her own catering business in Shanghai. There have been changes in our lives, but the one thing that hasn’t changed through all these years is her irresistible homemade food. We talked about food together, cooked together and enjoyed eating together. Those moments solved all the problems in life for the time being.

So I was gradually and deeply influenced by my mom’s lifetime passion about cooking. However, it was not until I moved away from the city she is in to the other side of the world that I realized what cooking really means to me.

It’s a way of presenting and sharing love by turning a wide range of fresh ingredients into a plate of delicious and beautiful looking food to those who I care about. It’s a way of giving thanks.

Despite the geographical distance, cooking brings me and my mom closer. We still discuss food in our conversations over Skype. We exchange recipe ideas and show each other photos of the food that we make. I miss her a lot. Cooking makes me feel like that I am not that far from her. The inner connection between us gets stronger and stronger because we share the same passion.

This blog is a bridge that forges our connection, and by reading this far, you have already helped me to reinforce it. THANK YOU for reading about our stories.
